Pookanav

Pookanav

Inspired by a Kannada folk tale, the play is designed for young adults. The folk tale that narrates the story of a young girl who receives a magic boon to tun herself into a tree and come back to her own self is made use of in this story of two young girls and their mother who make their livelihood by selling flowers.

Girl-tree is an oft repeated image in Indian folklore. More often associated with fertility, this image is used in this play for young adults as a metaphor of a life of beauty and love set against a life of greed and business.
